Make A Plan

Communication is a top priority while planning for emergencies. Ensure that you and your family discuss things such as emergency contacts. meeting places, and evacuation routes.

Communication

  • Family communication: how you will communicate in an emergency if separated
  • Create a list of emergency contacts and phone numbers
    • Establish meeting locations
      • Establish a safe meeting place for different kinds of disasters
      • Location outside of the house in case of a fire
      • Neighborhood meeting place if you cannot return home
      • Location outside of your community in case of evacuation
      • Location in case of shelter in place
      • Identify emergency shelters in your area

Evacuation routes

  • Identify and map evacuation routes from frequent locations such as home, school, or work
  • Identify potential modes of transportation
